To counter the efforts to influence voters, their statement comes before the hearing of the US Senate Committee on measures taken by social media firms.

Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said on Wednesday that protecting democracy is a weapon race, and both public and private sectors should combine to face external interference.
Writing in the Washington Post, Zuckerberg acknowledged that his company was delayed to find out that foreign actors were running a coordinated campaign to intervene in 2016 presidential elections in the United States. His statement comes before the US Senate Committee’s hearing on Wednesday, which will focus on the measures taken by social media firms to combat the efforts to influence voters.
Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg will be present in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee to expand on the functions of their firms against the Russian government-related missions aimed at influencing voter opinion in the United States.
In his article, Facebook CEO explained various aspects raised by his company to prevent potential threats. “With progress in artificial intelligence, we are now blocking millions of fake accounts every day because they are being created so that they can not be used to spread spam, false news or informal advertisements.”He wrote, “We actively look for potentially harmful election-related material,” he said, that any violation is removed immediately.Google of AlphaBet Inc. has refused to send the committee’s request to one of its senior officials. Google Spokesperson told TechCrunch that he would send the written evidence to represent the company to his Chief Legal Officer, Kent Walker.
Google spokesman said, “Walker reports directly to our Chief Executive Officer [Beautiful Pichai] and is responsible for our work in this area.
“Walker will be in Washington, D.C. on September 5, where he will give written evidence to the Congress members on our work, and answer any of their questions.”Walker released testimony that underlined measures taken by Google. It has been said in the statement that Google has taken steps to identify and remove artists from our products,
which mislead others about their identity, including Internet Research Agency and other Russian-and Iranian-affiliated institutions.
The testimony also said that the search engine had started a verification program for any federal election advertisements on Google in the United States.
Sandberg issued a statement highlighting his company’s stand before the hearing. CNBC quoted Sandberg’s statement, “The danger we face is not new.” “What are the strategies they use, which means that it will take everyone – including industry, governments and civil society experts – to work together to stay ahead.”Data violation caseIn the last few months, Facebook has become public when it has become public that British political consulting firm Cambridge Analyica has access to personal information of 87 million users of social media platforms. The company was also unsuccessful in identifying alleged Russian intervention in the presidential election of 2016 in the United States.MPs from different countries had asked Zuckerberg to appear before them to explain the data violation. On April 11, he testified before the United States Senate Committee on the matter.
