In the west, Lenovo is primarily known for laptops and is the name behind Motorola’s recent phones, Lenovo Z5 Pro GT but it’s easy to forget Lenovo has a phone range all its own.

It won’t be so easy to forget once you set your eyes on the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT, even though the phone is unlikely to be coming to the U.S.

The first thing you’re likely to notice about the Z5 Pro GT is the almost complete lack of bezels. That’s because, like the Oppo Find X and the Vivo Nex S before it, the Z5 Pro GT is a slider phone.

The front-facing cameras and earpiece are hidden inside the phone’s body, and they will mechanically pop out when required.

Other than that, the phone is similar in look to the Lenovo Z5 Pro — aside from the emphasis on red accents around the frame, and the carbon fiber pattern under the glass back.

Inside is where the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT really sets some records. The Z5 Pro GT will likely be — alongside the OnePlus 7 — one of the first phones in the world to feature the new Snapdragon 855 processor, which should make it a top-level performer.

It’s the other stats that set records, though, as the Z5 Pro GT packs in a massive 12GB of RAM.

That’s the most RAM ever seen in a smartphone. There will also be up to 512GB of internal storage.

Oddly, the Z5 Pro GT will miss out on Pie, as it’s running Android 8.1 Oreo at launch. Presumably, an update to Android 9.0 Pie will be forthcoming, but it’s still a disappointment not to see it on launch.

There is a 6.39-inch AMOLED display running a 2,340 x 1,080 Full HD resolution, and you will find a 3,350mAh battery powering it.

You will find two camera lenses on the back of the device — a 16-megapixel primary lens, and a 24-megapixel secondary lens.

There are two front-facing camera lenses, a 16-megapixel primary lens joined by an 8-megapixel infrared lens for facial recognition, though there is also an in-display fingerprint scanner.

NFC is included and it comes with dual nano SIM slots. USB-C is included, but there’s no headphone jack; instead, you’ll get a USB-C dongle for your headphones.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT will be available for pre-order from January 15, ahead of its release on January 24.

There is a lower-powered version of the phone equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and that will cost 2,698 yuan (about $390).

The big-time model with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage sees a significant bump in price though, falling at 4,398 yuan (about $640). There are unfortunately no plans for a U.S. release at this time.

Two weeks after its introduction, the Snapdragon 855 chipset now finds its way to an Android smartphone for the first time and it’s paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Lenovo revealed that the Z5 Pro with Snapdragon 855 outdid every other smartphone in AnTuTu with a score of 368,480.

Lenovo launches Lenovo Z5s smartphone in China today and to everybody’s surprise, the Chinese smartphone maker has now announced yet another smartphone, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT will be the first smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 chipset and comes as a successor to the Lenovo Z5 Pro which was announced earlier last month.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT will be available for a starting price of 2,698 yuan (approx. Rs 27,700).

Two weeks after its introduction, the Snapdragon 855 chipset now finds its way to an Android smartphone for the first time and it’s paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Lenovo revealed during the launch event that the Z5 Pro with Snapdragon 855 outdid every other smartphone in the AnTuTu benchmarks chart with a score of 368,480, more than even the iPhone XS which is powered by Apple’s A12 Bionic chipset.

Another reason for the high score could be the presence of 12GB of RAM which finds its way for the first time on a smartphone.

Lenovo Z5 Pro GT Edition Processor Snapdragon 855 Display 6.39-inch Super AMOLED FHD+, 2340 x 1080 pixels Memory 6GB/8GB/12GB RAM, 128GB/256GB/512GB storage Camera Rear: 24MP Sony IMX576 + 16MP Sony IMX519, dual f/1.8 aperture; Front: 16MP (f/2.2 aperture) + 8MP (infrared) Battery 3,350mAh OS Android 9 Pie, ZUI 10.0

Besides the internals, the Z5 Pro GT features similar components as that of the Lenovo Z5 Pro.

The device comes packed with a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. There are no bezels on the front as there’s no notch at the top and the display thus spans to up to 95.06 percent of the front.

The display is HDR 10 compliant and also features an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The reason the Z5 Pro GT manages to pack in an all-screen display is due to the sliding back panel which is made of glass and employs six double helix springs for the physical movement.

The slider features the dual front-facing 16MP (f/2.2 aperture) + 8MP (infrared) cameras, an infrared sensor, infrared light and proximity sensor.

The camera comes with AI features including a beauty mode for selfies and IR face recognition for detecting a face even under low light conditions.

The main camera comprises of a 24MP Sony IMX576 sensor and a 16MP Sony IMX519 snapper with dual f/1.8 aperture lens, autofocus, dual-tone LED flash, 4K videos, 1080p videos at 120 fps, HDR, PDAF, super night scene mode and AI scene recognition.

The Z5 Pro GT comes with Android 9 Pie pre-installed and Lenovo’s ZUI 10.0 on top and is backed by a 3,350mAh battery that’s bundled with support for 18W fast charging.

Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS and USB-C. The lack of a headphone jack is compromised with a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter.

Lenovo Z5 Pro GT Edition

The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT will be available for a starting price of 2,698 yuan (approx. Rs 27,700) for the base version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

Furthermore, the device can be purchased at 2,998 yuan (approx. Rs 30,800), 3,998 yuan (approx. Rs 41,000) and 4,398 yuan (approx. Rs 45,150) for the 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB versions respectively.

Lenovo has been out of the smartphone game for a while, especially since the company’s 2018 portfolio looks less than impressive.

But that all will seem to change with Lenovo’s latest offering that will turn some heads in the coming months. The smartphone in question is the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT that has some stellar specifications and even a greater design.

The first thing you will notice is the display with zero bezels. Lenovo has opted to use a similar sliding design as the Honor Magic 2 where the front-facing camera and the earpiece is hidden in the body. The selfie camera and the earpiece will slide up whenever a user requires to use it.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT will also be one of the first few smartphones that will have Qualcomm’s 855 processor under the hood. The only other smartphone to feature the new chipset is probably going to be the OnePlus 7. The Z5 Pro GT is taking the game up a notch though as it will have 12 GB of RAM. That’s the most amount of RAM we’ve ever seen on a smartphone yet.

At launch, the Z5 Pro GT will come with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with support for Android 9.0 Pie in the near future. Lenovo’s move to launch a smartphone in 2019 with Android Oreo is definitely disappointing however we don’t know yet how Android 9.0 Pie performs in tandem with the Qualcomm’s new chipset.

In terms of display, the Z5 Pro GT has a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 Full HD. The smartphone has a 3,350 mAh battery powering it which is more than enough for full day use. The primary camera at the back has a dual lens setup with a 16-megapixel primary lens and a 24-megapixel secondary lens. There are also two front-facing camera lenses i.e. a 16-megapixel primary lens coupled with an 8-megapixel infrared lens for facial recognition. The Z5 Pro GT also has an in-display fingerprint sensor that can be used as an alternative way to unlock the smartphone.

The 12GB RAM variant with 512GB storage will be way costlier as it will retail for 4,398 yuan (Rs 45,000 Approx). As of now, it isn’t certain whether the smartphone will see a release in India but keep a lookout for MenXP Tech for more news on the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT.
