Russia has inducted the Avanguard hypersonic missile at a speed of 27 times the speed of sound. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the missile is equipped with nuclear capabilities. It can fly at an average speed of 20 times the speed of voice. According to Putin, no system can defend it due to the speed of this missile. According to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the missile was inducted at 10 am local time on December 27. Now its place of deployment has been kept a secret. However, it is believed that it will be deployed in the mountainous area of Ural.
How fast will Russia’s Avanguard missile be?
Russia claims that this missile will be 27 times faster than the speed of sound (voice speed – 1235 km / h). In this context, the speed of the missile can reach around 33,000 km per hour. Russia claims that it is the first hypersonic missile. According to the US Department of Defense Pentagon, its hypersonic missile program is still in progress. At the same time, China has spoken about testing of hypersonic weapons in 2014.
6000 km Ability to aim up to range
Putin said on Tuesday that the Avangaard missile system could surpass any missile defense system. He also saw missile testing in December 2018. It is said that Avangaard had successfully targeted a practice target 6000 km away located in the Ural mountainous region.
The intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Avanguard is capable of carrying two megatons (about 2 billion kg) of nuclear warheads at a time. Russia’s Ministry of Defense has also released a video of the Avangard system. However, weapons experts have expressed doubts over the missile’s capabilities.
